meyer lemon

Picked up my new copy of edible East End (celebrating the Harvest of the Hamptons + North Fork) - Spring 2010

Absolutely stunning articles and photography! Check it out online here.

There is a great article on growing citrus... from one suburban farmer to another, called Meditations of Meyer Lemon.

Anyone ever tried to do this yourself???

We were actually hoping to plant some fruit trees! Maybe I can get some tips!

My sister is in charge of the Green Initiative at her workplace and she forwarded me this for my daughter and her girlscout troop. Something important to be involved in... and not just for kids!

Thanks, sis! And I will be turning my lights out this saturday! Hope you all do too!!!

p.s.: would love to know if you have heard of this..., if you plan on doing it..., and if you are going to have a "lights out party!" (there are party ideas on their site! ohh la la!!!)

going green never looked so good

I just love this idea from Bella Figura... (Plus they are having a sale on samples... go check them out!)

Letterpress Wedding Invitation Trend – Eco RSVP Requests

"One of our favorite recent trends in letterpress wedding invitations has been the increasing number of requests we’ve received to print RSVP information directly on the outer envelope flap. The envelope is letterpress printed with either a website address, email address or another means by which RSVPs are requested, without having to send guests a separate reply card. It’s a fabulous idea that is incredibly eco-chic because it saves so much paper, but it’s also budget-friendly, too! A couple cannot only reduce paper usage, but also save the money they would have spent if providing guests with a reply card and postage. Paired with lovely letterpress wedding invitations, it’s chic, streamlined and equally appropriate for a barefoot wedding on the beach or a black tie affair. We’re in love with these that we’ve recently printed and can’t wait to print more…"

And here are a few more of MY favorites! You KNOW how I love color (and my Blue Crab!)

sleeping around

OK, not THAT kind of "sleeping around!!!"

Planning a getaway vacation??? Do you want a choice that is a bit more affordable and Eco-Friendly?

Try renting a house or "house swapping."
The folks at Ideal Bite have this great tip...

"The Benefits:
Fooling around with all the conveniences. More than the average hotel - fully loaded kitchens, laundry rooms, backyards, and general coziness.

Getting it (on) for free. The average rate for a midprice hotel room worldwide is $166 per night. Exchanging homes is free.

Saying "screw it" to high resource use. Those half-used shampoo containers, always-on hallway lights, and daily bedding changes in hotels add up to a lot of waste.

Getting up close and personal with locals. After all, if you wanted to hang out with your own crowd, you'd just stay home. This way, you'll get a more authentic feel for the area."

Check them out here for the rest of their article.

Honeymoon potential? maybe!

Also, I saw this cool site the other day called Coastal Nest. Looks nice... "A vacation cottage in Pacific Beach Washington. Stay & play & getaway!"

Remember what Dorothy always said: "There's No Place Like Someone Else's Home!"

Another Ideal Bite

I know I have mentioned "Ideal Bite" in the past, but they came up with the best advice today, and I wanted to share the article with you. And since I have been in a "bikini" mood recently...

"Driving Solo and Late for a Bikini Bash?"

(Oh, and just so nobody gets as upset as I did at this... it is an April Fool's Joke. Some people just need to lighten up. Read it, it's funny!)
